Why we’re going BZRK for transmedia

Last autumn, we helped Egmont UK launch a £1m marketing campaign for a new book by author, Michael Grant.

It was the first marketing campaign of its kind for a book, embracing transmedia over a six-month period in a fantastically imaginative way to promote a new title which launches later this spring.  Full details of the transmedia campaign launch are available here:

Transmedia was introduced to us through a four-minute video produced by The Shadow Gang, the team working with Egmont UK and Michael Grant to produce GoBZRK and it was yet another great example of just how brilliant and exciting the world of media and technology can be.

Briefly, transmedia storytelling is the technique of telling a story across multiple digital platforms – websites, Alternate Reality Games (ARG), social media and mobile applications. Transmedia campaigns see the story evolve across the different platforms, as opposed to multi-media, where the same story is told on different platforms.

This weekend, BBC Click has delved into the world of transmedia to take a look at how it works.  It also investigates how media companies are using it to engage fans in a completely new way, allowing them to experiment and learn about their audience and what they want as the transmedia experience unfolds.

It’s a great watch and features interviews with Egmont Press MD, Cally Poplak and the author, Michael Grant, as part of the feature.  The BBC Click programme is available here:

In our first blog of 2012 we talked about how we thought this year would be another exciting one for media… As we say goodbye to January, we can already safely say the world of media is delivering!
